Poza La Presa
An old dam, a jump-in pool and an easy walk for kids
Poza La Presa is run by a young farming family in Colonia del Toro. A short walk past the dairy leads to a clear river and a concrete dam built more than 80 years ago to supply Bajos del Toro with water.
Below the dam is a deep pool with a small fall, and five minutes downstream a prettier cascade with room to spread out a picnic. It is one of the easiest waterfall visits in the area, good for kids.
Getting there
From Vara Blanca drive down towards Sarapiquí, turn left towards San Carlos, and after about 20 minutes turn left to Colonia del Toro.
Local tips
The family also offers a tour of the dairy. Check the pool depth before jumping.
Travel lightly
Picnic on the rocks and carry everything back out.
