Cascadas Pozo Azul
A giant fall with swimmable pools at its feet
In the hamlet of Colonia del Toro, beyond Bajos del Toro, a farm family guides visitors down to one of the tallest falls in the area. You walk a farm track, cross a pasture with huge views and enter the forest right at the lip of the fall.
From there it is a steep, muddy descent of around 20 minutes to a ledge facing the full drop. Unlike many big falls, this one has calm, clear pools at the bottom for swimming. More pools and small cascades wait further downstream.
Getting there
Drive to Bajos del Toro and continue about 20 minutes towards Río Cuarto to Colonia del Toro. In a normal car, the route via Vara Blanca is easier.
Local tips
Wear trail shoes and pack a waterproof jacket and dry bag. Save energy: the climb back out is the hard part.
Travel lightly
Leave if it starts to rain heavily. Rivers here rise fast.
