Tesoro Escondido
Two blue waterfalls, and the bigger one is the one people skip
Tesoro Escondido, the hidden treasure, sits on a family farm near Bajos del Toro. The walk starts in a pasture, drops to a pale blue stream and crosses a huge field full of wild blackberries before reaching the river.
Turn right and scramble down a short, slippery slope to the first waterfall. It is small, but its glowing pool runs into a cave beside the fall. Then head upstream for about 20 minutes, crossing the river on stones, to a much bigger fall that few people bother to reach.
Getting there
With a 4×4, navigate straight to the farm. In a normal car, go via Vara Blanca or navigate to Hacienda La Luisa first and continue from there.
Local tips
The water is freezing. Bring a jacket and something hot to drink for after the swim. Dogs are welcome and camping is possible.
Travel lightly
This is a working farm. Stay on the path through the pastures and close every gate behind you.
